I’ve never read the books, and even I knew that. ;)

    Random Fact Time:

It’s really sad, but out of boredom and the desire to see some of my favorite characters Get It On (and my unnatural desire to lord my knowledge of the English language over unsuspecting writers), I decided to beta read HP fanfic.

And now I know literally everything there is to know about the Harry Potter universe. I once corrected a writer who mentioned a character leaning on a maple tree in the forbidden forest. I told the writer, “I’d switch to a tree actually mentioned in text, such as yew, sycamore, pine, or oak. And possibly beech, but I’d have to check on that last one.”

Then I nearly had to shoot myself in the face for knowing which trees have and have not been mentioned in text as being in the forbidden forest.

    My brain is so odd.

(Oh, and as for not having time to read? I have the HP books on audiobook, so I can listen to them on my iPhone/ipod/any-mp3-player while I do other things. I prefer the British versions, since they are read by Stephen Fry, and he rocks!)

I cried my stupid head off when D died. And when I finished the last book. I wanted HP to go on and on forever.

  4. HouseWench says:

He is also gay! (This is fully canon.)

I was thinking it was a ruse. A clever wizarding ploy to throw off the Death Eaters! I kept turning the pages waiting for him to reappear.

I’d heard the rumors… but… I though all the exciting stuff happened in the last book. I didn’t expect it in this book at all.

    Kaya,

I was similarly upset with his death, and I’d been expecting him to die at some point in time. The classic coming of age story (which is what HP is) always has the father figure/Mentor, leave at some point, usually by dying.

He died. And thus the Half-Baked Plot ended. Next up is the Year of Magical Tenting.

If you feel like reading something… well… good (which the last two books certainly aren’t), I’ll lend you some links to good fanfiction. Fanfiction in which Harry kicks arse and the prophecy matters, instead of tenting around for trinkets.

I’m… well… I can’t ever help but snark at the last two books. In my, not-so-humble opinion, they’re horrible. Like bad, bad fanfiction. “Death was with them like a presence” – *snort* Perhaps if JKR would’ve NOT been attempting to tell us about The Importance of Death, they would’ve been better.

But. Eh. I’ll stop here to not ruin your reading. ;)

  8. Hey now! Some of us haven’t yet begun the series! :P

  9. Leiyah says:

I was upset by Dumbledore… but I think I was moreso upset about one of the deaths at the end of book 7. I won’t spoil it… but one particular death bugs me more than the others.

There is no question that Dumbledore gave his life. There is little you can do vs. Avada Kedavra but he would have much rather had Snape do it than Malfoy.

I’m only about a chapter into book 7. I’m more upset that Hedwig died than Dumbledore. :-(

I have to say though, after reading other tween books like Twilight for instance? I’m impressed that JKR *is* killing off important characters. Generally, tween books are too afraid of upsetting the readers to go all drama with it. I think Twilight would have been MUCH better had someone died. *nods*

I’m more upset that Hedwig died than Dumbledore.

I had that as well! Why did she have to kill that poor bird?? I was angry too…lol.

      • anonimous says:

        who the heck is hedwig?

      • Leiyah says:

I think Hedwig’s death was very different than the others.

Dumbledore, Sirius, et al all died knowing they could die at anytime for the cause of good. They went into a battle prepared. Soldier vs soldier.

Hedwig was different. He was a (helpless) animal caught in the crossfire. I think it showed the devastation to their lives that this battle was. When Hedwig died, it was so real. It emphasized the brink that Harry was brought to and had to overcome.

        IMO. =)

I was devistated when Dumbledore died! I agree with Leiyah, though – some of the deaths in the last book was much worse. Dumbledore dying was sort of expected.

And, wow, I’m not the only one reading Snape/Harry-fics?!

it was horrible when he died. i srsly cried thankfully i was alone. twilight is good the whole saga. i vote you read it next.

    • kaya says:

I’ve done Twilight. Am had me reading that last summer. I gotta say though, the movie? Sucked. I really hope they do a better job with the next one.

      • Danielle says:

the movie did suck.. but i read the first book in four hours and just had to see the movie.. so since i have long ago learnt that my imagination is way better than movies i didnt get my hopes up. i just not have actual people to use with my imagination. the harry potter movies suck too. but i accept that.

I cried when I read that, too.

I loved the last book, loved, loved, loved it. I wish I could go back and read it without knwoing how it ended, lol. Have fun!

AWW, poor kaya…I reacted the same way. Sigh…
You have a long way to go.
It’s far from over and gets even sadder.
    :(
Good luck…and don’t cry too hard.
Lord knows I bawled like a baby. LOL.
@ TeaRose: Ahh…Snape/Harry fics…hahaha. I read Snape/Hermione. I guess it’s because I’ve always liked older men and could totally see that working out. They’re both intellectuals. And it’s just naughty. TEEHEE. Or Draco/Harry. But yeah, I could see Snape/Harry too I guess hehe.
