I have to know so I can divide you into “Friends” or “Maybe Friends”.
Srsly though. What a clusterfuck have they turned into? See, when I start thinking my own life is too drama-filled, I’ve only to pick up a magazine and see what those two are up to.
I hear now they’re taking Jon out and filming the show from the viewpoint of a single mother. That would probably work if the show had fuck-all to do with the realities of single-parenting. A woman making a rumored 75 GRAND per episode, with nannies and body guard and a whole crew of helpers? Not so much of the single-parenting struggles.
But then I’m a bitch and all, so.. yanno. No sympathy here!
Besides, maybe if SHE hadn’t been such a flaming bitch to Jon, he might not have left her.
Anyway. Enough about them.
Speaking of clusterfucks and bitches, I caused a shit storm on Fet the other day. Hee. Honest to God, I never ever plan it. It just happens. I’m a shit storm freaking MAGNET.
It was just typical bullshit. Unless you report everything phrased in hearts and flowers, the *immediate* advice is “He’s a loser and you should leave him.”
We live in such a throw away society. Nobody thinks they have to work at anything anymore. While I agree life is too short to be miserable, it’s also too short to run away every time there is a wrinkle in the fabric.
I don’t even believe that we have more wrinkles than other people. Well.. maybe a few more. I do think I talk about them more than most though.
Thats what I tell myself anyway. ;-)

So I joined the local Freecycle message board here awhile back because I wanted to get rid of my fish tank, right? And I did, about an hour after I posted the ad. I stayed on in the group, but, for real? I have to leave.
I have to. Or I’m going to say something mean.
It’s actually pretty rare to get a posting for someone wanting to give something away. What I DO get are many many MANY messages from people asking for shit.
Sometimes, there’s a legitimate posting. A woman asked for empty babyfood jars for a Sunday School project. A guy asked if anyone had 3 or 4 roofing shingles because he ran out and didn’t want to have to buy a whole package. Someone else put a call out after a housefire for clothing.
The rest of them? “Hey! I need twin beds for my kids! Two of them with frames and mattresses and bedding!” or “I’m having a baby. What do you have that I can have?” or “I need a whole house of furniture!”
Well, wtf.
It just rubs me the wrong way. Even if I HAD stuff to give away now, I’d not put it there. It comes as too freeloading, lazy, whatever.
Bah.
But I seriously want to know- Team Jon or Team Kate? I’m Team Kate just cuz, yanno, us bitches have to stick together.

I used to belong to my local Freecycle also, but I got fed up with the people BEGGING for everything and anything and admitted that they wanted to use it to stock THEIR yard sale or thrift store.

I follow neither Team Kate or Team Jon. Although I congratulate Team Kate on figuring out how to get help with raising her children (not to mention college tuition, post-child support). Heaven knows a woman shouldn’t be expected to care for all of them by herself. Or even one by herself.
Speaking of that, if it’s Jon and 8 kids, does that mean he have to give 8/9 of his income up to support the wee ones? I wish.
As to the rest, when I opened Fetlife and saw someone had commented on YOUR Journal entry and then looked at it and saw there were NINETY-NINE comments, I nearly croaked. I mean, the people mid-way through who were talking about the O/P like you were in a group and had gone out soliciting their opinion made me want to laugh hysterically.
I came to check the comments here and saw you only had a paltry 17. I mean, really. There ought to be way to drive all that traffic to your blog. You’d feel rich watching the hit counter explode. Of course, you’d also have to tolerate those comments. :)
As for freecycle, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten anything like that. I have set things outside in the driveway though, and had them helpfully disappear.

I am so with you on the freecycle thing. Ours is not too bad in that there are always a decent amount of things being offered, but OMG some of the “wants”.
One person was obviously doing her Christmas shopping on freecycle last year from some of the things she was asking for, and another asked for a Wii fit!
Seriously – at the time when you couldn’t even find them in stores or they sold out within minutes of being stocked she was expecting someone to give her one for free!
I have only asked for stuff twice – once was houseplants, the other was a long shot that someone might have an old or non-working vacuum cleaner the same as mine because I had broken a part on it, and didn’t want to have to buy a complete new one for one silly little part that I might be able to get through freecycle.
And Jon and Kate… I have no opinion either way. Never watched the shows.

Now, I know taking even 1 to Disney would be challenging, let alone 8 2.5 yo’s (or 6…I forget how many are the same age just now…) but Kate had this MAJOR meltdown when one of the girls slurpped chocolate ice cream and it ran down the front of her white dress. Srsly…who the hell dresses a kid for Disneyland in a white dress? c’mon. Tv and all is one thing but…omg. I HATED her at that moment because she screamed at the kid, screamed a super nutty at Jon, just was on a super tantrum…I kept hollering at the TV “get that woman some Valium or something!” *sigh*

Never heard of your fancy swap meet friends but I know I am selling my house. seriously. every single episode i watched, every one, had me seething with disgust aboutthe way Kate treated not only jon, but her children and every single staff person/nanny/housekeeper that walked in the door. i HATE her. like, seriously. if i were jon, i’d have left five years ago. and probably witha slap upside her head for good measure. she’s crazy with a capital K. and i have no pity or support for her in any way. she has TONS of cash to throw around, tons of opportunitites for not only herself but those kids in just about every venue possible. this is not how it was when the very first special ran about the family who went from two to eight overnight, and they were ina tiny house, and blah blah. nuh uh. not a chance.

my private blog on LJ is filled with the horrors of michigan freecycle groups. my “job” for 6 months was to sell and downsize everything from a 3 bedroom house with a garage into a 1 bedroom condo (no garage), so i spent a LOT of time on freecycle and craigslist. and freecycle is full of the biggest greediest assclowns i’ve ever met.
offer posts were outnumbered 10 to 1 (easily) by wanted posts, and 9 times out of 10, the offer posts were shit like “i need a stove, refrigerator, washer, and dryer! and they all need to be a year old! and preferably white!” or they want a whole new wardrobe (either because they didn’t plan accordingly with their growing children, or they’d had weight loss surgery and didn’t fit anything any more).
the one that still cracks me up is the single mother who was too poor to buy furniture, so she needed an entertainment center for a 52″ LCD tv, a (comfortable) futon, and a DVD player. wow, really? you NEED those things?
i’ve had people take things that weren’t theirs, and once i gifted an entire tote filled with dishes, and asked that they bring their own boxes (or empty the tote into their vehicle) because i needed to keep the tote and had just run out of boxes. of course, the recipient didn’t honor my request and just took the tote. i should have made sure to be home and not left it outside, but i figured such a huge gift would warrant common courtesy, and none of those freecyclers could come at a set time, i had to let them give windows that ranged from 2 to 12 hours.
i had to stop freecycling for my mental health.

I’m afraid I’ve env er watched a reality show and never will. It’s not like they’re real. I’ve hated them from the first Survivor and avoid them like the plague. From what I’ve heard or read about them, I’d say that neither should be supported. Hell, you could make a (bad) case for taking their kids if you were a CPS psycho.
I recall the drama on fetlife. I keep telling myself I won’t let myself be drug in the next time, but I just can’t help but to poke at the trolls. I keep hoping I’ll distract them long enough to see the dawn and they’ll turn to stone. ;)

I have only seen a couple episodes (right around the end, coming up on the divorce one) BUT, this is what I think:
In terms of the KIDS and their well-being… I guess team Kate, even though I think she’s the one who pushes for the show to continue and I’m not 100% convinced that is in the kids’ best interests. But still, for the kids, Team Kate.
HOWEVER, if I met them in real life? I’d rip her fucking eyes out. She’s a selfish, manipulative, disrespectful, ego-maniacal cunt who gets off treating everyone like they are disposable, and complaining every single chance she gets. Bitch has EIGHT children and all the grossness kids bring with them, and she still has the nerve to pretend she’s afraid of touching things that other people may have touched to the point of rudeness to people who have come to do her favors. Are you fucking kidding me? She disgusts me as a human being, and I’m astounded at the lengths she’ll go to to be cruel and degrading to those around her.

I’ve never seen the show, save for a snippet here or there. I found Kate to be really damn irritating. I’m probably like her without meaning to be, and therefore I hate her even more. (And now you’re going to get traffic with people searching for the show, LOL).
You said something about that 2% not being worth throwing away the amazing 98%, and that’s how I feel. I love my master, all of him (even the grumpy parts, even the parts that make NO sense), and I wouldn’t trade the last six years of my life for anything.
Our freecycle has a rule that one cannot post more than one ‘want’ ad a month. Between that rule and using a junk email addy for all yahoo communities, it saves me from having to deal with most.
Off to go read the shit storm! It had apparently just started when I looked before. :)

That’s so odd about the freecycle thing! I’ve had pretty good experiences with ours up here. There are the rare wants that make me laugh (ski equipment for 3 kids was the most recent one) but the offers always outweigh the wants. Maybe it’s a Canadian thing?!
As for Jon vs. Kate… I haven’t watched the show enough to know details about them but while I don’t like Kate, I *really* dislike Jon… he is just whinny and spineless and… ew… sooo count me in for Team Kate!
