Photos- Take Two

(The post was broke. Now it ain’t. *beams*)

In the front jungle, about 2 hours ago. That’s probably the garden thief!

I don’t know why people have such a hard time hunting these things. Master practically walked right up to her to take this picture. She just stared at him like “yes? did you need something?”

The lake we were fishing on earlier this week. Skeery, huh!? The water is so clear, you can see the bottom up to probably four or five feet, then it gets dark. Dark water is super skeery.

It’s especially creepy when I can look down and see weeds waving a foot or two below the surface. They look too much like arms and if I stare too long then I figure a face is gonna pop out and then I would have to die.

I’ve been watching that OCD Project show, with the exposures and shit, and while I know my water phobia isn’t ocd, the anxiety seems similiar. Anyway, the whole exposure thing wherein you just have to do it until the anxiety goes away really works. Every time we’ve gone out on the water, I’ve been less and less anxious, less prone to freaking out when the boat tips. This time I even stepped from the dock to the boat without having a death grip on M’s hand. In fact, I wasn’t holding anything. I think a real “exposure” would be actually getting IN the water but the very thought of that makes me want to cry and makes my bladder cramp.

Maybe next year. It’s taken 6 years to get me to look over the side of the boat. Baby step to dunking. (circa What About Bob?).

Also! I still have bruises from when M beat on my tits at that play party. When was that, like 2 weeks ago?? Damn. That was some hard hitting. Prolly didn’t look like it from the peanut gallery though!

I *can* swim- sort of. I can tread water and I can do a passable interpretation of swimming to get across the deep end of the pool. My mom actually put us kids in swimming lessons when we were wee tykes.

Pools mostly are okay. I can even stick my feet in a lake provided I can see the bottom. But going deeper or even putting a toe into water that is dark or murky is panic-inducing.

I blame it on being dragged to watch Jaws on the big screen theater when I was 4. I have a vivid memory of being absolutely terrified, of crying through the movie, hiding in my dad’s armpit- and it was all downhill from there. Master’s the first person to ever get me near a river or a lake, and getting on a boat and leaving the shore was huge. He’s a saint.

Man, phobias are no fun. I have a few and just thinking about being exposed to them is enough to cause hyperventilation and the urge to throw up. Good for you for getting as far as you have.

Take baby steps then ask someone who is comfortable in the water to go with you. I was a ocean lifeguard. Talk about toughncinditions and rips. Anyway a lake up north is the perfect place to have yourself beaten again then sit in the cool water to relieve the pain. You will be fine. Ok, you can skip the beating, just go with some who you know swims like a fish and can pull you out and Wade in slowly. Don’t jump cause the bottom may be hiding something sharp or your foot could roll. Diving flat is different but you are not up to that. Congrats for looking over the side.

You deserve to be chuffed with yourself. Phobias are a bitch. I’m afraid of heights. I went up a ski lift last winter and just wanted to go ahead and jump to get the agony over with. I was holding on so tight i put bruises on my husbands arm, through hbis jacket! You Go, girl!!!

I used to work in Yosemite Natl. Park before I was married. The first thing they tell new employees is to be careful of Bambi. Deer kill more people in the national parks than any other animal. People get too close, the animal gets scared, and rears up to strike at you with their sharp little hooves. You guys be really careful!

I have just the thing to take care of that mean, man-eating deer. Makes a loud noise though. Don’t rush trying to defeat your phobia, one step at a time. You’ll be fine before you know it….
