Napoleon Complex

To the person who, for whatever reason, was directed here while trying to find out why Napoleon was always pictured with his hand inside his shirt?

Dude, I am SO sorry.

Clearly this site will NOT help you with your Napoleonic homework.

Unless of course the answer to your question is that Napoleon’s Mistress told him to. ;-)

Way funnier than being unable to shit with socks on.

  2. the answer of course, is “because His hands were cold.”

*snicker* don’t you just love where google takes you sometimes?

LOL. I know, I get google traffic from the craziest of search terms, and I wish I could apologize to those poor people who got directed to my blog over weird searches.

    Kaya,

If google uses photo comparrisons, they might have though the tough love or the pain toy links were of someone with their hands in their shirt.

BTW, I take it the person wasn’t happy with what he found here?

Napoleon was just always ready to spring a bunch of flowers on people. Such a prankster.

It was a non-threat pose. Not just Napoleon, but many military and high-up people of around that era were painted like that. You can’t go for your sword quickly if your hand is inside your jacket.

‘Course, now it signals “I’m going for my gun”. Funny how things change, isn’t it?

The hidden hand was a feature of some statues of the ancient Greeks and Romans and that later painters based their poses on classical models. The pose was recommended by certain classical writers as a useful posture for orators. Aeschines of Macedon (390-331 B.C.), an actor, orator and founder of a school of rhetoric, who wrote an important book on oratory, postulated that speaking with one’s arm outside the toga was considered ill-mannered.

    Haha, thats great!

I just tried a ton of google searches to see if I could repeat the connection of Napoleon and your site. So far, nothing.

I know. I was doing the same thing and it didn’t come up either. All I know is they got here somehow through ask.com – I would guess something to do with ‘his hand’.

  9. lurker says:

Hands are difficult to draw, and therefore expensive to draw. So, most people posed for pictures with one or both hands concealed. Napoleon was just conforming to social norms.

  10. OMG that’s too friggin funny.

What I’ve always heard was that Napoleon, as a younger soldier, prepared and shot cannons. He got gunpowder on his hand that exploded turning the skin on his hand white, which was why he always hid it. I believe he also wore high heels because he was such a shorty. He was continually adjusting for his differences; hence “Napoleon Complex.”

How on Earth do you track stuff like that? Do you know what most people search for that leads them to you–like what?! I’m intrigued now.

You realize you made everyone run to their stat counter to check what searches draw folks, right?

  13. That is well known that money makes people independent. But what to do if somebody doesn’t have cash? The only one way is to receive the credit loans or just commercial loan.
