Moving.

Moving sucks serious ass.

The house is gorgeous. Three times the size of the other house. I am in Suzy Homemaker heaven.

The land is beautiful, too. The dog, who literally has months left, (Months, at best but weeks is probably more accurate. His arthritis isn’t responding to treatment at all.) is loving this endless land to roam. We debated on whether or not to put him down before we moved but I really wanted him to be out here with us for a little while. I can’t imagine a nicer place for a dog to spend his last bit of time. I sat in the vet’s office a few weeks ago trying to be all adult about the matter of putting the dog down, and failing miserably I might add, because there just is no sure way to tell what amount of pain he’s in vs. his quality of life. I wanted the vet to give me a straight answer but there just isn’t one.

Master has had the dog longer than He’s had me. He’s raised him since he was a puppy. He is not handling this any better than I am. The plan is to spoil the dog as much as possible in whatever time he has left. :-(

The cats are faring well. They’re intent on exploring every nook and cranny. One of them pissed on the dog’s bed. *snicker* I don’t know what he did to piss them off. ;-)

Master bought a luxurious (and expensive!) bedroom suite. I think the ‘cunt in a cage’ is being traded in for a ‘cunt in a gilded birdcage’. And I am not complaining. No Sirree Bob. The kids are no less excited than I am. This was a good decision, I think.

Anyway, Master’s up and yakking my ear off so back to the boxes I go.

    Welcome to the neighborhood!
    :)

    Happy unpacking.

Enjoy the treasured moments with your puppy. He will be happy he was able to spend the last little bit roaming happily!

re: the dog; you’ll know when he’s not having quality of life. Trust your instincts.

re: the house; glad you are settling in and it’s loverly. :)

    Kaya,

I agree completely; moving sucks serious hell. It does sound like he’s managed to find a wonderful place. I could never handle being out in the boomdocks, but I’m a city bred non-driver. Give me asphault and concrete, with a few decent parks, anyday.

Von is right, when it’s time for the pup to move on, you’ll know. It won’t make it any easier (I cried my ass off when I had to put my first cat down due to feline leukemia), but you’ll knwo it’s the right thing at the right time.

Oh, I’m so sorry about your dog, Kaya. I have found that in times like this, the animals will tell you when they’re ready to go.

  9. Zoey says:

    Hey Kaya!

Glad you enjoy your new house, and happy the kids are fairing it also.

I’m really sorry about your puppy, but you are doing the best thing for him.

I’m sorry about the pup- It’s never easy. But if he’s enjoying himself, then let him be. You will know when it’s time.

What happened to the other post- it seems one has been deleted?

I’m so glad you like your new place!! :) pictures woman!

I am very happy to hear from you and hear that the move went well.

I just hope that it does not take to long to unpack hugs. :)

  14. Kat says:

Congratulations on the wonderful new home.
    Happy unpacking *snicker*

So sorry about the your dog. Loosing a family member is hard and being the one to say enough is just too much. You will know when it is time though and I vote for more snausages until. : )

  15. Maria says:

Oh wow, that’s so much space!! (When M and I moved to the place we’re in now, it was twice the size of our old apartment, and we just luxuriated in it because you could actually move around and everything.)

Sorry to hear about your dog. It’s really hard to deal with the loss of a pet, especially when it’s one that’s been around for so long.

Good luck getting everything else unpacked! (I never minded the packing part of moving, but gods, I hate unpacking.)

  16. Adele says:

I am so happy for you. Maybe my Suzy Homemaker heaven will manifest soon, before I’m to tired to enjoy it.

    Happiness to you all

  17. Ruth says:

I rarely comment but I just wanted to say congratulations and I’m glad you took the dog with you. As several others have said, you’ll both know when it’s time. It sucks though.

    Congratulations again! Enjoy settling in.

  18. Joscelyn says:

I’ve never commented (read for a while though), but I just wanted to say hello and congrats on the good move. Sorry to hear about your puppy though. I just went through the same thing with my dog about 2 years ago, and its still hard to think about. *hugs* Best of luck with that.

Also, I was wondering if I could add you to the blogroll on my site?

My aunt had a similar situation with an elderly dog… she made a mistake when it was time to put him down, she works in the medical industry, and decided to give the dog enough morphine to go quietly, but used too little. the dog, she said, was its old self again for about 2 days, from the lack of pain. she started medicating the dog that way, and the time it had left, it wasnt suffering.

I honestly dont know how legal this would be, but i thought i should share the information.

  20. His mija says:

ohhhhhhhhhh i can’t wait to see photos of the new house. CONGRATES.

  21. Paul says:

Kaya, glad that the move is going well.
Sorry to hear about your dog, I’ve had dogs all my life. giving them that release when it’s time, is always hard.
It’s natural to cry, I do every time.
    Warm hugs,
    Paul.

With all that land, you should definitely think about subbie hunting. It’s on the list for our fetish in the forest trip this year. The Dom/mes are armed with paintball guns, and it’s open season on any naked sub running about. Here’s the link if that sounds interesting :) I wonder what paintballs feel like.. Hmm.

Glad you’re liking your new digs.

I am sorry to hear about your dog. As others have posted, you’ll know when it is time. If you’re not already doing anything with regard to pain relief for the arthritis, has your vet discussed that with you? That might allow him to do a bit more roaming than he’d otherwise be able to do. My vet had me giving my dog two aspirin daily. One in the morning, one in the afternoon/evening.

  24. dragonflybelle says:

Glad you made it! The landscape can really grow on you. Best wishes to you for pampering the pooch.

  25. keptgirl says:

Moving is super stressful, but my Master also moved me a long distance and into a more large and beautiful home on beautiful land with new furniture. I, too, am in Suzy Homemaker heaven so I am very happy for you and can say that once I got settled I felt alot better.

I’m so sorry about the doggie. My doggies are doing good. They ended up getting lyme disease from roaming the sticks too much with lots of those ticks. So, I don’t know your location but lyme is really painful and it would suck if your dog got that at the end of an already painful stretch. The drops you put on their back are helpful for prevention plus have to check every day for ticks.

Congrats and best wishes. Thanks for your great writing.

I understand how hard it is to put a beloved companion to sleep. I had to make that tough choice in February with my darling Kira. And I fear before long I may have to make it with one of my “old men”.

I’m glad though that you are happy in the new house.

  27. jennifer says:

i’m really sorry to hear about your doggy. daddy had his puppydog, buddy, for 9 years since puppyhood (longer than he’s had me too), and just when he got his constant chronic allergies under control, i brought him in with a slight cough and he was diagnosed with a quick-moving cancer. there wasn’t anything we could do, and we had to say goodbye to him the day before we were scheduled to fly to vegas to get married. it was a sad, sad experience.

it sounds like he’s really enjoying all the time he has left, and i think it’s wonderful he gets all that yard to roam and enjoy.

i also think it’s wonderful you’re in suzy homemaker heaven!! HORRAY for new big houses! that’s great. glad you all survived the move!

Did the hermit crabs make the trip? Are you closer to S’s work? Closer to your family? How is your sister?

    • kaya says:

The hermit crabs did not come along. I found them a great home with a fellow hermit crab lover. That was my decision, not Master’s. He had no issue with bringing them.

We are closer to His work and there will be less travel in the future.

I am not closer to my family, but neither did I want to be. My family consists of Master and my kids and they are right here.

My sister? I assume you mean the one whose husband left her some time ago? She’s in a relationship with a man she met at work, they’ve been together for a year or so now. She moved in with him a few months ago.

      • Julie says:

Awesome that you are closer to M’s work and less travel to boot!

Too bad about the hermit crabs, they were so cute!!

Yes I was referring to your sister whose husband left her. Good for her, you were so worried about her and she is doing wonderfully!

        Construction?

        Have fun settling in!

  29. CarrieAnn says:

I’m writing with envy over all the space you now have and a new bedroom set to boot!

We were filming the other day. Taylor hopped on the bed. It collapsed. Lmfao. The rails completely gave out.

Ok, so we have another bed frame but actually putting it together? I’ll bet my boobies we’re still sleeping on the mattress and boxspring on the floor two weeks from now!

Hope you’re settling in good and the dog is enjoying the freedom to roam some.

    Miss you!

(And thinking about next month’s party without you guys? I’m going to sob, damn it. Sob)

  30. CarrieAnn says:

    Er… writhing. Not writing. Lol.

    I’m so brain dead lately.

  31. kaya says:

Thanks everyone. I miss you all too! And thanks for the encouraging and comforting words about the dog.
