Is that a baby… or a watermelon?

jes

She has an appointment this afternoon. She’s going to ask if they’ll help get her started. She’s SO uncomfortable.

I’ll let you know!

The poor girl. Though she looks beautiful she does look very uncomfortable. The butterball button is out. Doesn’t that mean it’s done and time to take it out of the oven.

Aw she does look pretty uncomfy… but if there isn’t anything wrong with the baby shouldn’t she just wait till the baby is ready on it’s own?

I hate how medicine is practiced these days :\

*shrug* She’s past her due date so it’s not like she’s asking to go early.

Hell, I was induced a week or two before my due date with B-man because my doctor wanted to go on vacation.

But she’s not going to ask for an inducement, just a membrane strip.

  3. Anonymous says:

She can ask if they will strip her membranes. It sometimes jump starts the labor and it doesn’t require any medication.

  4. Vee says:

She is SO tiny and the baby looks SO big – are they expecting her to be able to deliver vaginally?

-Questioned asked by someone who has no children and is definitely not currently pregnant – y’all can chuckle now…:-)

Good greif! What’s the tyke waiting for? Be born already. Sound like anyone’s thoughts recently?

  6. doubleknot says:

ohh, poor thing; even her hand there looks puffy and swollen.

  7. Luci says:

I hope she gets some help to get started. I’m saying this in the nicest way possible…her belly is HUGE!

I also hope she does deliver vaginally because as bad as labour is…it ain’t near as bad as recovery from a c-section.

Good Luck to her (and you of course!)

  8. abigail says:

Tell her orgasms and nibble stimulation can cause her brain to release the go-into-labor hormones.

Maybe that is TMI to share with your daughter, but… she’s already pregnant, so I figured maybe that cat is out of the bag.

  9. abigail says:

oops. that would be “nipple stimulation”, but I guess either would work. :D

  10. Aw! She looks beautiful! :) Stay strong momma! i hope the doctor’s appointment went well. i just wanted to come by and drop a few ideas your way in case the doctor said no. i am a doula, and i am working on becoming a midwife to deliver babies at home. (How i had mine as well) She can google “stripping membranes” and there are step by step websites that will teach you how to do it if she has someone willing to help her out. Also, you can try Castor oil to help induce. Now, if she thinks of doing this one, she should know to drink half to the whole bottle (smaller size one) and about a couple hours later her system will be cleaning itself out nicely. This can sometimes trigger labor due to the fact that the body naturally cleanses itself, also if this doesn’t work, it will only help anyways by cleaning her out and creating more room for baby :) Getting the stuff down is pretty rough, it’s not the taste, it’s the texture to worry about… but trust me, it can be well worth it!

Also, having sex, nipple stimulation, and intense walking/hiking can really help! If she is a swimmer that can help as well.

Best of luck to her! She’s beautiful and if you have any questions let me know :) i’m only in Ohio…. i’ll come help ;) haha!

So when you say it tends to induce labor because “the body naturally cleanses itself”, you mean like trying to evict the baby, like in a miscarriage?!! Cuz that is the impression I got from your post. Yes, in past history many “abortion” treatments were tried to start labor. They are not usually the safest or most recommended way to go. As for learning to strip your own membranes on the internet!!, No thanks, I’d pass on that one. just my humble honest opinion.

Can’t wait to see the baby, but it’ll come in it’s own due time, really. :) Tell her to stay hydrated, put her feet up as much as possible, and rest when she can. In my experience doing the things you feel driven to do or eating foods you crave to eat at this stage are the best ways to get to the goal! :D

I told my daughter about the orgasm thing and she just looked at me, ahahaha! She said just the idea of trying to do that seemed overwhelming. Heh.

They scheduled Lucy to go in for the membrane procedure, it was close to her due date but when she showed up, she had just started labor anyway. They ended up inducing her too; it all worked out. Jes will work out too. I can”t wait to hear! (typing w/one hand at the moment, holding my own little granddaughter right now lol)

I was two weeks late with my first. I remember walking the mall, and even mowing the lawn to try to go into labor all to no avail. They finally induced me. Good luck!

i’m probably late and labor has already started but on the off chance i’m not. While i was in highschool (we won’t say how long ago) there was a home for unwed mothers (have to give you an idea there of how long ago). Some of the girls came to the same high school. They had this running joke about who would go into labor next or first the days that one of the meals served was grilled cheese sandwiches and cream of tomato soup. Evidently every time that was served someone in the home went into labor.

Fast forward a few years i was still 6 weeks away from my due date, happened to have said grilled cheese sandwich and tomatoe soup for lunch, my water broke that night. 4 years later with second child, same thing had the soup and sandwiches for dinner, was in labor the following morning. Not sure if it was just the thoughts of it that caused it for me or was just a freaky coinceidence but may be worth a try.

  18. Once interventions start happening, they tend to keep happening and lead to c-sections. Please be careful, that’s all I’m sayin’. And, wee tiny women push out babies all the time! She can do it – just don’t let her lose faith in herself.

Congratulations! In the long run, a few more days won’t matter, and you’re gonna be a GRANDMA!

Reminds of an ER episode: Conny Oligario ( a nurse) is very close to her due date and she’s very uncomfortable, so everyone in the ER has some ideas how she could induce labor. She ends up eating cabbage soup, which seemed to be disgusting but didn’t help her anyway. She still had to wait.

My son was born 7 before the due date, so I don’t know how it is to wait for labor, but I know, how uncomfy one feels with such a belly.

I’m sure your daughter and granddaughter are gonna be fine!

    Wish you all good luck!!!
