Happiness is…
…connecting with your 14 year old son over a 20 year old Ozzie song.
I was just as surprised to catch myself singing as he was. Me for remembering the lyrics and him because he didn’t know I even knew who Ozzie was. The almost-approving look he gave me as I sang with him was totally priceless.
From Ozzie, we headbanged to Metallica, rocked some AC/DC- and then I totally blew it by not knowing any Pantera.
Before rolling his eyes as only teenages can do, pulling his earbuds back on and slouching back against the car window to feign sleepy disinterest in life in general, I caught a glimpse of that sweet blond-haired, blue-eyed darling that I have birth to.
He went back to hiding behind his hair and I went back to navigating traffic in the rain.
It was a sweet 15 minutes though.

How sweet! Thanks for sharing; I needed the smile this morning.
Kaya,
That’s so cool. I’m trying to train my roommate’s kids with Sweet (Ballroom Blitz), Dr. Hook (Hooked on a Feeling) and other classics. Maybe I can save them from modern rock.
Nah, never happen. ;)
Dave
PS Who is Pantera?
Why everyone knows that Pantera was that beautiful auto that Alejandro De Tomaso designed!…and of course some years later those metalheads from TX, used the name, but you already know that story.
hang onto these moments…they are our reward for all the other “stuff”.
Oh Dave! Yes! Ballroom blitz…and Dr Hook and the Medicine Show…of course, there has to be mention of Boston *(not that I’m *prejudiced* that way as a New Englander, lol!)
Thanks for the sing down memory lane!
Gosh don’t you LOVE when you can connect with your teenagers. I do love seeing the glimpse of the little boy he used to be, but somehow connecting with the boy he is now is so much rarer, it’s worth even more.

What kidding? I say do it!
That was so sweet. That is a memory you will cherish and relish for many, many years I am sure. Thanks for lightening my day up…it made me want to call my son and ask how he is doing lately. (He’s grown and lives 6 states away.)

I know, right?
I told him if I ever found drug paraphenelia (sp?) in his room again I was going to take all of his cd’s and load his Ipod with Barry Manilow.
:)
We’ve been taking our 12 yr old daughter to Jimmy Buffett concerts for the past 3 years, and she was a Parrot Head way before that! Last year she started talking about this song Ohio that CSN&Y sang, and how important it was for them to do it in just one take, and how it was an imposrtant song in the anti-war movement, and all I had to do was press track 8 on my cd player, and it was playing in my car. How cool was that???
