Halloween Wreath
While searching for Halloween ideas I came across this DIY Halloween wreath. I figured I would give it a go, and see how cheaply I could do it.
First Stop: The Dollar Store
One wreath hoop, two strings of leaves, two Halloween ribbons, two bunches of orange flowers.
One strings of skeletons, one bag of skulls, one bag of plastic creepies, one black raven (the raven is hardly noticeable. In a do-over, I’d skip it).
Next Step: Spray paint the wreath and foliage a flat black. (I left one of the flower bunches orange so I could keep the orange/black Halloween color theme)
Next Step: Assembly. Wrap foliage around wreath. Randomly hot glue on skeletons, skulls, spiders, ribbons.
Last Step: Hang on the door and be praised by your husband and kids about how “cool” you are. :-)
Assuming you already have a hot glue gun and wreath door hanger, total price adds up this way:
Spray paint- $3.00
Wreath ‘ingredients’ – $11.00
Total price- $14.00
But!
I have enough paint, flowers, skeletons, skulls and ribbon to make at least one more wreath. With another $3.00 investment from the dollar store, I’m going to make another one and send it to my mom for a Halloween present.
And it was FUN. You all should totally do this!

Actually, I did notice the raven. I don’t decorate for each holiday but your wreath is great.
Kaya,
Actually, I’m hamfisted enough that I’d probably screw this one up. :)
It does look cool, though.

Cute. Being a bit “crafty” and having some imagination goes a long way towards making things that are a lot less expensive than ‘storebought’ and of course, it makes them unique and special…just like you are.

This is perfect! I was just complaining to my husband that I wanted to hang a wreath for fall/halloween but the ones that I found in the stores were far too expensive. Thank you for the crafty post! :)
I have to have one. We so need to have crafty night. Just the girls… I sooo wanna make one now lol.
This is great! Love it. Well done, kaya.

Great wreath! I like the raven too.
That looks really cool!
You SOOOO crack me up, Kaya! Only you could follow up the Big Bad Wolf post with an oh-so-innocently crafty home decorating spot. I’ve been reading you for a couple of years but never commented – you are always my first linkclick of the day :-) xo
Oh that is AWESOME!! A wreath like that at our local MIchaels craft shop goes for (hold on…..)
$60.oo
Yuppers, that said “sixty. dollars.” I love the idea of spraypainting the flowers…I never ever thought of doing that…brilliant! Can’t wait to try that myself now!

I LOVE it! I read this post, went to the store and bought everything, and made one, too! I definitely included the raven – I’m a huge Poe fan – and put it on top instead of inside cause my ring is smaller than yours.
Thanks for the great idea!
That is a wonderful wreath! I would totally make one except it would remind me of how much it will suck when I miss halloween AGAIN this year because I have lectures scheduled that weekend AGAIN. Hope you guys have fun though!
[rq=807200,0,blog][/rq]I’m hooooome!
I have that big-ass wreath for the bird, but he’s afraid of it, so I was going to do mini pumpkins on it. I have skulls and paint and such already, so I may totally gank your idea.
I have that same little raven, and my mailman hates me, because he’s fishing-lined to my mailbox. Every Oct. 1st he’s shitting himself until he remembers it’s not real. (Daddy and I went to a Halloween store today, and larger ones were TWENTY BUCKS. I almost died, and couldn’t justify the cost at all.)
I need to get my Halloween decorations fixed and put up…before the damn holiday comes.
I heart you, Kaya, hardcore. Thanks for writing.

what if….you somehow strung the raven to a black string of some kind, and hung him from the top of the wreath so that he was hugely displayed in the middle of the open area of the wreath, maybe with a twig or something glued underneath his feet? That might make him a lot more obvious and daunting. Great job, btw! I love it!
duh…an invisible string would be better, like fish line. I’m gonna do this! thanks, kaya!
Way cool ! ! !
