I grew up in Illinois so I don’t share the same accent that he does. Pretty much anytime that I’ve talked to anyone from Wis. or Mi. they’ve asked where I’m from. Who’d a thunk that a short drive across the Illinois border was like entering another world. :D
*Nods* I have an accent compared to a lot of people here – I’ve got more of a southern ohio/pittsburgh-ish accent (long o sounds is how I tell) than other people.
I didn’t hear a bit of a southern accent with S, but then again I’m used to my FIL who has The Worst Long Drawl I’ve ever heard. Sometimes it was physically painful to listen to his stories. (And oh, the culture shock when I moved to NC and heard people with southern accents…on the NEWS!)
Daddy, on the other hand…born in Germany, grew up speaking it until he was 6 or 7 – understood English but didn’t speak it. Moved to the states, to NC, where they all sound like hicks.
Not the slightest bit of any accent. He’s so weird.

I hear a North Central accent, which makes perfect sense considering your location. For some reason, I just wasn’t expecting it.
He’s got a bit of southern thrown in there, too. He spent a good portion of his childhood in Alabama, where his mom was from.
That’s what I was thinking y’all were hearing. I don’t hear it anymore.
