Christmas nom nom noms
My idea of making christmas goodies is to dip everything in chocolate. White chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate – I’m not picky.
In the fridge is chocolate covered chocolate (aka fudge).
Those yellow things are pineapple pieces. I don’t remember where I read/saw about dipping pineapple in chocolate, but it isn’t half-bad. The best part is that no one but me will eat it. (*beams* My momma didn’t raise no dummies!)
I feel all kinds of chef-y when I carve up a real pineapple. Imma be on Food Network. Chocolate Dipping with Kaya. ;-)
The litte round things are mini peanut butter Ritz sandwiches dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with christmas sprinkles. They are so. good. So good.
The only semi catastrophe (so far) is one of the sprinkles that I bought that I thought was just red and white sugar crystals is actually peppermint flavored. Peanut butter crackers, chocolate and peppermint? Blech. Not so full of the yum. So everything that I sprinkled before I tasted (cuz I was being SUCH a good little candymaker and not eating everything as I went)- Is nasty.
Oh well.
So all of this, minus what me and the kids eat, plus the fudge and a couple of other things I still have to make, is going to Master’s work. I have to do another batch of everything to mail to my mom and another batch for us to have on Christmas day.
And cookies! Must have cookies. And peanut brittle. Maybe.
There is not one uncovered inch in my kitchen. I have egg noodles drying on the counter, too. I made some really yummy chicken stock from boiling the chicken for the enchiladas yesterday so we’re having homemade chicken noodle soup tonight. Maybe with grilled cheese, bacon and tomato sammiches. God love comfort food (to balance out that chocolate!)
I have a little plaque in my kitchen that says “if you want breakfast in bed, sleep in the kitchen”. I am so there. I feel like I haven’t left the kitchen in days.

Nom-nom-nom… mmm… send me some of those… looks yummy!
Kaya,
Seeing all that yummy chocolate first thing in the morning (afternoon, I love Christ,as break) is so not fair. As for the peanut butter cookies, choclate and peppermint, I’ll take them if no one else does :) . They sound positively scrumptuous.
Dave
Argh, you make me want to make a bunch of sweets, but I’m not supposed to be eating them! And how can I make them without eating them?! It’s simple, I can’t! *cries* Having said that, I have a love for white chocolate covered pretzels. Yum. Oh, oh, I also love chocolate covered strawberries. I’m not seeing any white chocolate dipped ones in your photo and I’ve yet try them. Have you and are they any good?
Yum, I wanna come – for dinner and dessert!
Yummy! I got my baking genie out during Thanksgiving. I don’t think I’ll make more before Christmas. It is just Master and me after all. I’m supposed to be dieting!
CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES!!
I am so coming to visit you :)
okay. now you will hate me with a passion.

(good for giving to the kids to make their own. minus the booze. Jamie just put the chocolate in the bowl with bowls of cocoa powder, nuts and stuff and you scrape the teaspoon across the chocolate like you would icecream and you get a truffle. just stick a cocktail stick onthe top and dip in your selected topping.)

It is so nice to hear you happy!!!! (And the pineapple sounds yummy!)
Hi K/T,
De-lurking to admire your cooking over the last few days. Thought I’d pass along the recipe I made for myself today (it snowed so much where I live that my work was closed, which hardly EVER happens)
I got the recipe years ago from someone who was giving out samples of it to promote her brand of salsa. It’s SO easy and just sumptuously decadent in a not-really-that-decadent kind of way (at least, if you go easy on the cheese and leave off the corn chips, which I usually do).
This recipe can also be expanded to double it or go even larger, for potlucks. I used to cook for a fraternity and often expanded this recipe to feed four dozen 20-year old young men. Just make sure that the amounts of broth and salsa together (I always use the cheapest bottled salsa I can find and low-sodium broth) equal about twice the volume of the dry rice. Put in lots of chicken (tenders work really well) and you can, of course, add other things like olives, onions, etc.
If you’re making the recipe in the amounts below, the only thing you need to do is make sure the pot is just simmering so that the rice doesn’t catch. The white chicken will stay nice and moist and not be overdone after the cooking time.
If you want to make this for a crowd, bring rice/salsa/broth to a boil and pour it into a big glass baking or casserole dish, cover with foil and bake at 350 in the oven. Check at 20 minutes by fishing out a forkful of rice; it may need to bake another 10 minutes. Five minutes before serving, take off the foil and put the cheese on.
Here’s the recipe:
SALSA CHICKEN AND RICE
SERVES 6 TO 8
3 T olive oil
1 large minced garlic clove
3 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cubed
2 cups rice
2 1/2 cups chicken broth
2 cups salsa
1 package corn chips
Jack cheese, grated
1 green onion, chopped
Combine in large pot: chicken, oil and garlic. Cook slightly. Add rice and lightly brown. Add broth and salsa; bring to boil. Cover pot and simmer. Cook approximately 25 minutes or until the rice is done.
Place on heated serving platter. Garnish with chips around edges. Sprinkle cheese and onions on top.
I’ll dip anything in chocolate…if you want to get fancy..dip the strawberries in white chocolate…then when that dries dip each side in dark chocolate and use a tooth pick to make dots on the white chocolate…Tuxedo Strawberries…we dip suger cookies in chocolate too…and cover peices of pound cake…and again just about anything you can dip in chocolate…you and Master and the kids should do a chocolate fondue…now i’m hungry…anyway Happy Holidays to you and yours…
fown
i think i gained 10 lbs. just by looking at the pics and reading your post-rofl.
we (as in me) are starting cooking the goodies tomorrow. Mistress insists on being here to “taste test” everything (Her version of taste testing is packing up about half of what i make and stashing it in Her side of the closet-lol)
i think i am going to try the pineapple dipped in chocolate-looks yummy and somewhat nutritious for the kids.
Makes me miss being home. My mom dips frozen blueberries. They’re delicious. And Pringles dipped in chocolate taste a lot like KitKats.
Mmm… And if you take like the bow shaped pretzels, you can dip one of the sides in peanut butter and get a nice little gob in the corner and then dip like 2/3 of the pretzel in chocolate to cover the peanut butter gob.
Damn kaya! Is there anything you won’t dip into chocolate? Or does you Master run like the wind when you strat melting the good stuff?? Hehehehe, come here little girl, I’ve got a nice chocolate sucker for you……(OK, so sex is always on my mind! I’m a guy!)
Just FYI…
I adore your idea of making chirstmas goodies.
S.S.S.
I love dipping grapes in chocolate. I’m not sure they would set well, but they make a really great fondue-type snack in almond bark. But I have a *HUGE* sweet tooth, so they may be a little much for most people.
I think we’ve seen some more explicit posts with Master S. demonstrating “Chocolate Dipping with Kaya” (so sorry … just had to go there!) ;)
I misread your Food network program and got
Chocolate Dipping Kara
I am sure Mr D would enjoy and I bet you would enjoy dipping him
Ahhh chocolate
I hear ya, girlfriend! The cookie baking marathon here is almost done…and I’ve got about 50? dozen cookies, plus a half pound of chocolate covered pretzels and some chocolate covered peanuts done, too.
