Belated birthday present
Jes and the girls are hurtling toward me as we speak!
Honestly. I’m more nervous about them being on a plane than Jes is. THEY ARE SO FAR UP IN THE AIR! AHH!
When Jes moved, I took all the stuff she’d left here and shoved it into Babygirl’s room and shut the door. That’s how I deal, see. Pack it and shut it. Heh. Anyway- I’ve spent the last few days straightening that mess out and organizing toys, washing bedding, setting up the pack and play, etc. I had to have M pull all the baby gear out of the garage and I got that all washed and set up in the living room. It currently looks as if a Rainforest has vomited in my house.
It turned out that Jes’s husband couldn’t come along so she’s flying with the girls by herself. I think that’s incredibly brave, flying across the country alone, first time flyer no less, with a 3 year old and a 4 month old. And it’s not a straight shot, either. She’s got two connections to make. Ack! My nerves are shot and she only just took off 2 hours ago.
Since she’s got enough to manage what with just the two kids, diaper bag, and a carry on of toys and snacks for Babygirl, I told her not to mess with hauling car seats or luggage. That meant I had to go buy two car seats but I wanted to have my own anyway, and she left enough clothes here for all of them that she doesn’t need to bring any. I have diapers and wipes, bottles and formula. We’re set. Just bring on the babies.
I couldn’t ask for a better late birthday celebration.

I feel for her. I have done that flying alone with little kids thing. It kinda sucks- more in annoyances than any major scary way though. I hope her trip goes well. I know it’s too late to give advice, but if the little one has trouble on the up and down bit this is one thing that really helped mine. Since you can’t tell little babies how to clear their ears on take off and landing, making sure they are sucking on something (bottle/nursing)to keep them from being so uncomfortable (and crying and making everyone else miserable.) She may already know this, but just in case she has trouble… it could help the return flight.
Happy Belated Birthday!!!!
And have fun with the babies!!! I’ve flown more times than I can count with my munchkins – most often alone. It’s not as bad as you think. They’ll do great!
You are such a thoughtful mother and amazing grandmother!!
Enjoy Enjoy Enjoy!!!
I think she is incredibly brave to be flying alone with her two girls. I am flying with my little one to see her grandparents at the end of this month (without Krishna) and I’m already super nervous about it. I saw the inside of a plane on a tv show the other night and just about had a panic attack. I wish them luck and I just know you are going to thoroughly enjoy their visit!
that’s awesome – all set up, just need babies! Have fun!
